The MG Caledonian Centre requested help to remove some malware and update a number of WordPress plugins. The long-running website was hit with some malware and attempts by various parties to remove the malware had failed to date. The webmaster asked Support From Richard to assist and carry out a number of software updates to make the site more secure in the future.
Project Scope & Methodology
The only access to the website was via FTP and the WordPress admin panel. The limited hosting environment and size of the site prevented the use of any cloning or duplication software. It was therefore decided to download the whole site via FTP and the database via a WordPress plugin.
The website was then installed on a subdomain of a Support From Richard website and the task of finding the offending code, updating plugins and updating the core WordPress began. Once the site was clean – checked by several plugins including Sucuri, the site was duplicated and made ready to be installed onto a new host. Once again StablePoitnt was chosen based on the excellent price, features and support offered.
The website was installed and handed back to the site’s webmaster. New optimisation plugins and SEO plugins were installed to ensure that the site would rank highly and operate smoothly. In addition, a number of email addresses were created for the site’s owners.
The client decided that they would also like Support From Richard to maintain the website through a long-term monthly maintenance agreement.
A number of hosting packages were evaluated and StablePoint was selected. The low-cost package provides full Cpanel access, emails and a great support system. Other great hosting companies were evaluated. (Check out hosting companies in the Directory)
